POM: How to deal with a change of stick
J.+NicholasB - 03:52pm Jul 29, 2010 PT
I was playing recently (SL1) at a table and in the middle of a reasonably good roll when the stick change occurred. Usually, this is not a huge deal for me, but the new stickman crowded very close to the table and almost hunched over watching me handle the dice. This was a problem as he got in the way of my release, and I became wary of hitting him while throwing the dice.
He seemed to be a new dealer (and had a training name tag on) so Im assuming he was just trying to watch the dice and not trying to get in my way (I was tipping the crew pretty well--and everyone, including the pit were very very friendly). My question is, does anyone have a good strategy for dealing with this? Do you just ask the stickman to give you more room? The table was packed, so I could not move further to the left.
Thanks for any thoughts on this.

Here is my first table report as a GTC member...enjoy!
Vegas Report
Day one - in search of 5 dollar tables to get warmed up on.
Came in a day early and rustled up a comp room just West a block from Strip
First stop, south America…-
Its been a few months since being on a real table... it looked a lot longer than my practice rig!
tables was jammed midday... they had long rollers. went poolside for 45, came back to One guy shooting from hook. all wide open! followed commandments and got to work... or fun!
Rolled for about an hour and took a quite a few turns to get the rythym. got into teens and maybe a 20 roll. (I don't like to count, just keep focus on dice) Bet modestly, so no huge jackpots to speak of, but definitly ahead of the game. tipped well with crew on pass line and odds. other guy picked up on this and tipped hardways... which I hit multiple times as that is my set of choice.
Crew gave no heat even on short rolls. pit boss noted the tips for the crew and watched but said nor showed any emotion and joined in on table talk.
On to another sorta across the street. First time there.
No one at their table. 12 ft a bit bouncy but workable. It must have been the color scheme, this table looked smaller than the previous casino but was really the same size (I walked it off).
Nice crew and grew nicer with tips. (cant say enough about that part - I win... You win!). soon filled in with CF'rs.... time to 5-count...they rarely tipped.
Pit watched like a hawk... a super came down about half an hour to chat with pit boss... his comment after she left was interesting... why should I give s#!t to the one roller that's making our crew money...but be happy when he sevens-out? that's stupid!
They all watched but said nothing. Even when I rolled a hard 8 that we were all on that was short of wall and just went SPLAT. Crew was very appreciative of tips and all gave credit on longish rolls. ("well done!")
None of the CF'rs at either of these tables had any long rolls, barely made their point... 5 count saved my bankroll! It would have been nice to join in on another's roll...
Did up one more casino nearby after early evening at Hofbrauhaus. Ausgezeichnet! Nice casino nearby with nice eye candy... AND another 5 dollar table! AND SL1 was open! Wanted to give it a try before I turned in early. a dice setter also now at SR1. But he did not hang around...again, no heat from crew but watched with eagle eyes for any miscue.
Again, tipped on my rolls and rolled decent early on but now the long day of travel, full meal and playing caught up to me. Losses were minimal but evident that no long rolls were coming from me nor the CF’rs - Time to go! left and thanked the crew for good chat, good atmosphere and a nice evening.
Next morn, played just west of Strip again before breakfast, me again @ SL1 with a foreigner playing deep on the right... no english spoken, so it was just me and the crew. again, no crew heat, made some money only on my own throws. Back my home casion since pool wasn't open that early yet went to the tables. Finally... some decent rollers at table!
I did not get beyond the teens this session but 2 rollers were setting dice (but throws were NOT GTC material) and did fairly well, made a few points. Got some money back on them. relatively even for about 4 hrs of playing yesterday and today. Back in the day... at this time I'd be done with my money and wishing I could go home early!
Had to work a convention that evening, so no more throwing. Met Born2Dance who is having insane luck with newbie CF'rs lately... he had a great afternoon and evening and did well with random rollers.
Day 3 was a great day of craps marathon! met up with Brothelman and Born2Dance for a stroll of the westside of the Strip craps tables.
These guys both have a beautiful GTC throw, both great guys to boot! A journey amongst synthetics, felt, new talbes and new places. Three GTC'rs rolling and chatting up the crew. Good guys to roll with and good tips on the throw.
Bman had some superb rolls near the end... he got his rhythm going and figured out the table! 4 casinos of various conditions but no heat to speak of. email me for specifics. Not many rollers in the AM... mornings I found here are great for getting your spot quickly.
Had to say goodbye to our three amigos, back to work.
After dinner I walked back on my own to the home of statues and dealers with necklaces and found my muse! Listened to my Yoda and relaxed the throw and tossed straight and true. Got it! Had a monster roll that lit up the place. I am assuming given the period of time and the number of mega multiple points I made on the 6,8 and 4 that it was +30.
You really can feel the time melt away in the Zone… just keep the same process over and over… it was surprising when the Devil finally showed! Like Dom… let out a nice expletive!
I 5-counted the others, found one random roller who hit 5 points and made a bit more. Noticed that my time was slowly ticking away, waited a bit more for the dice to make their way back… hit my point another 4 then Devil came back a bit sooner. OK… need to towel off and head home!
Overall analysis… as I’ve noted before, it’s all about the time and place… did not receive any heat and had an overall pleasant rolling experience. The crew does help... good guys/gals really make the time go by nicely and the tips keep them happy. Yes… leaving Vegas with more than what you came with is another nice thing!
Looking forward to returning in October with other GTC’rs!
