Gyeah-Gah-Gobe Goes to the Museum of Natural History
By Frank Scoblete
Gyeah-Gah-Gobe is me - that's what my two and a half year old granddaughter calls me since she can't say Grandpa Scobe (my official grandpa name).
So yesterday the whole family went to the Museum of Natural History in Manhattan. That was the beautiful AP, my son Mike, my son Greg and daughter-in-law Dawn and our wonderful grandkids, John Charles, age 4, and Danielle who I mentioned above.
When Danielle learned we were going to see dinosaurs she was terrified. "Dey eat me." We then explained they are just bones, not real dinosaurs. So when we saw our first giant one right at the entrance she said confidently, "Gyeah-Gah-Gobe, they just bones." I asked her if she were still afraid and she shook her head no.
It was a great day. We saw the butterfly exhibit where the butterflies fly all over the place and think nothing of landing on your head. We saw the "Lizard and Snake" exhibit where the lizards were actually moving around. Of course, there were African and Asian rooms and the complete dinosaur bone collection. And that massive Blue Whale, the largest animal that has ever existed on Earth.
But the best part of the day was the fact that Danielle really loves Gyeah-Gah-Gobe. I held her hand and she would kiss my hand and I would say, "Thank you very much!"
Then she wanted to be carried. She was light when I picked her up; an hour later she weighed a thousand pounds. My back was killing me. But she would play with my beard and smile.
"Do you like Gyeah-Gah-Gobe's beard?" I'd ask and she would nod her head then give me a big wet kiss. Of course, her nose was running at times and I'd get snot all over my cheek but, hey, you gotta take the good with the bad, right?
I have to tell you, I love being Gyeah-Gah-Gobe
